Mulching & Wood Chipping Launceston
On-site processing of green waste and bulk mulch delivery across Launceston. Fresh hardwood chip from local removals, aged compost material and dyed landscape mulch available by the cubic metre.
People come to us for chipping two ways: they've cut a pile of branches themselves and need it gone without multiple tip runs, or they're laying out a garden or landscaping job and need cubic metres of mulch on the block. The chipper sorts the first, the tipper sorts the second, and both can happen in the same visit when the timing works.
For on-site chipping we bring the machine to the property and run material up to about 200mm diameter straight through. That handles prunings from a weekend tidy-up, branches left after storm debris, or the green waste from a small lot clearance. The chip stays on your block — spread across garden beds, left in a pile for later, or loaded back into the truck and taken away depending on what you want. Either option is faster and lower cost than hiring a trailer and making multiple tip runs.
For bulk delivery we carry three mulch types: fresh hardwood chip from our own removals — mainly oak, blackwood and ash — which suits paths, weed suppression and mulching around established trees; aged composted material that's broken down enough for new garden beds without tying up soil nitrogen; and dyed landscape mulch in red or black for formal gardens where appearance matters. Ordered by the cubic metre and tipped to your driveway across Launceston. A spreading line item is available if wheeling it out yourself doesn't fit the plan.

Mulching & Wood Chipping FAQs
How large a branch can the chipper handle?
Up to about 200mm clean through, which covers almost all residential prunings and storm material. Anything thicker gets cut into shorter sections first, then the smaller pieces go through the machine. Trunk wood above that diameter is typically cut into rounds and stacked for firewood, or quoted as a separate haulage line to remove.
What's the difference between fresh chip and aged mulch?
Fresh chip comes straight off the machine after a removal — mostly hardwood, retains moisture and suppresses weeds well. It suits paths and around established trees. Aged mulch has spent months breaking down in a heap, becomes soft and dark, and feeds garden beds without temporarily robbing the soil of nitrogen the way fresh wood does.
How do I work out how much mulch I need?
For a 75 to 100mm layer across a bed, one cubic metre covers roughly 10 to 13 square metres. Measure your bed, multiply length by width and divide by around 11 for a rough figure. Call through the dimensions and we'll work out the order together.
Can the delivery be tipped and then spread?
Yes. Standard delivery is a tipper drop wherever the load can sit — typically the driveway or a hard surface at the front. If you want the mulch spread across beds, add the spreading line to the quote and the crew will rake it out before leaving.
